The display name is the name recipients see when they get an email from you. This guide covers how to update it in classic Outlook for Windows and the workaround needed for the new Outlook for Windows.
Prerequisites
- Your Ecenica email account set up in Outlook as an IMAP account
- Access to your Ecenica email account password (needed for the new Outlook workaround)
Change display name in classic Outlook for Windows
- Open classic Outlook
- Go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings
- Select your IMAP account and click Change
- In the Your name field, type your preferred display name (for example, John Doe)
- Click Next, then Close
- Restart Outlook so your outgoing messages use the updated name
Change display name in new Outlook for Windows
Microsoft does not let you edit the display name for an IMAP account after it has been added in the new Outlook. To change it, remove the account and add it again.
- Click the Settings (gear) icon
- Go to Accounts > Email accounts
- Click Manage next to your IMAP account and select Remove
- Click Add account to set up your email again
- During the setup, type your preferred display name into the field provided
- Complete the setup with your email address and password
Your display name will show in future messages.
FAQs
Why does the display name matter?
The display name helps recipients identify who sent the email. It is especially useful in shared mailboxes or when your email address is not immediately recognisable.
Will changing the display name affect emails I have already sent?
No. Emails you have already sent keep the display name that was set at the time. Only new messages will use the updated name.
