A chance to look back and review whats happened ‘behind the scenes’ recently here at Ecenica. Our UK domain offer (which we’ve extended to February) meant we had lots of new customers register domain. We’re constantly updating our service and this month was no exception with updates to PHP, cPanel, WordPress, WooCommerce and our upgrades to our own Cloud Hosting infrastructure.

2019 UK Domain Sale

During January, new and existing Ecenica customers were able to secure themselves a new UK domain for only £10 exc.VAT for two years. A saving of almost 50% (£9.98). We’re really pleased to see you’ve registered some interesting domains with everything from large publishing houses through to sports clubs taking up the offer. Cloud Server Capacity Boost

We completed infrastructure upgrades to our Managed and Unmanaged Cloud Servers in mid-January. The new upgrades provide extra capacity and increases the underlying performance of our Cloud Servers. If you’re thinking about making the jump up to your very own private server then please check out our Cloud Servers today. PHP 7.3 Upgrades

We’ve rolled out PHP 7.3 as an option in our PHP selector on all Shared hosting plans. Ecenica customers can change the version of PHP your account is running with just a few clicks. With PHP 7.3 comes a whole host of new features and functionalities for you to use on your websites as well as a welcome speed bump which will allow WordPress users to benefit from an increased number of requests per second. We recommend you run a test of your site by creating a quick staging environment.

cPanel Updates

We updated our web hosting servers to the latest cPanel version 76.0.18 in late January. The new release makes managing your web hosting service easier than before with new performance, security and interface improvements. The update also made improvements to your account’s spam filtering, IMAP email management and MySQL database engine.

FreeDNS Upgrades

We updated our DNS systems during January, moving our FreeDNS users to a new faster DNS platform. Encompassing a month of work from our team the new updates to DNS make managing your FreeDNS services even faster, easier and more reliable than before.

New WordPress 5.0.3

If you’re one of our many WordPress Hosting users you’ll have received a notification of the release of WordPress verison 5.0.3 on 9 Jan 2019. We quickly rolled out the new WordPress version to our 1-click App Installer, available with all our Web Hosting and WordPress hosting plans making it fast and easy for you to create a new WordPress website or update your existing WordPress site to the very latest version.

New WooCommerce, 3.5.4

We have recently updated our WooCommerce Hosting clients to the newest version of WooCommerce, 3.5.4, which was released on 22 Jan 2019. The newest version of the popular WooCommerce Ecommerce plugin features security and bug fixes which will make sure your online shops are ready and in fit shape for the year ahead.

Shared Hosting Apache Updates

We updated all our shared hosting servers to the latest version of Apache web server. This new version, 2.4.38, includes a number of important security fixes which help make sure your websites are running as securely as possible.

We continue to work on improving our extensive knowledgebase so answers to your common questions and help for any part of your Ecenica service is always at your fingertips. During January we published and updated fourteen support articles, covering topics such as improving the speed and resource usage of your WordPress site to setting up a catch-all email account.

In a further bid to improve support we’ve introduced new Support Departments so your tickets can get to the right team member and you get replies faster than before.
