This error means your website does not have a valid SSL certificate installed, or the certificate has expired. Visitors will see a security warning instead of your site.
The most common cause is that the free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate has not been issued for your domain yet. This usually happens when a new domain is added or if DNS is not pointing to your Ecenica hosting service.
Check your Let’s Encrypt SSL status
Let’s Encrypt certificates are included with Ecenica web hosting. They are issued automatically when your domain is connected to our servers.
- Log in to Ecenica Dashboard
- Click Manage next to your Ecenica hosting service
- Click the Security tab, then click SSL Status
- Look for your domain in the list
You will see one of two statuses:
- AutoSSL Domain Validated: your certificate is installed and working
- An error occurred the last time AutoSSL ran: the certificate could not be issued
If you see an error, click Run AutoSSL to attempt the installation again.
For full details on checking your SSL status, see How can I see if my Let’s Encrypt SSL Certificate has been installed?
Make sure your domain points to Ecenica
Let’s Encrypt can only issue a certificate for domains that are connected to your Ecenica hosting account. If you recently changed your DNS or added a new domain, check the domain is pointing to our servers before requesting an SSL certificate. See Connecting a domain purchased elsewhere for help pointing your domain to Ecenica.
