This guide walks you through the process of installing the Migrate Guru plugin and using it to migrate your WordPress site to Ecenica hosting. Migrate Guru is a free plugin which simplifies the migration process and works well even for large sites.
Prerequisites
Before starting, ensure you have:
- Access to your current WordPress site (the source site) via the WordPress admin dashboard.
- A Ecenica hosting account set up
- An email address to receive migration status updates from Migrate Guru.
Step 1: Install Migrate Guru on Your Source Site
- Access the WordPress admin dashboard of the site you want to migrate.
- Go to Plugins > Add New in the left-hand menu.
- In the search bar, type Migrate Guru and press Enter.
- Locate the Migrate Guru plugin, click Install Now, and then click Activate once the installation is complete.
Step 2: Prepare Your Ecenica Hosting
- Install a new WordPress site on your desired domain using Ecenica’s WordPress one-click installer
- Log in to the new site’s WordPress Dashboard
- Install Migrate Guru and activate
- Copy the Migration Key
Step 3: Start the Migration Process
- Open Migrate Guru on the Source Site.
- Enter your email address to receive real-time migration updates.
- Check the box to agree to Migrate Guru’s Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
- Click Migrate Site.
- On the next screen, choose cPanel
- Enter the migration Key you copied earlier
- From ‘Add Tables’ – Choose Select All
- Click Migrate
Step 4: Monitor the Migration
Once you click Migrate, Migrate Guru will test the connection to your Ecenica hosting service and begin transferring your site.
A progress screen will display the migration status in real time. You can close your browser if needed—Migrate Guru will continue the process on its servers.
You’ll also receive an email when the migration starts and another when it’s complete. The process typically takes 10–60 minutes, but depends on your site’s size (e.g., 1 GB migrates in under 20 minutes).
Step 5: Check your new site
- Visit your destination site URL (e.g., https://yourdomain.com) to ensure everything transferred correctly (pages, media, plugins, etc.).
- If you see an error you may need to change your PHP version as some older sites may need an older version of PHP to work.
- Test functionality. Log in to the WordPress admin dashboard on your Ecenica site (https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin) and test key features (e.g., links, forms, and plugins) work.
Step 6: Update your domain DNS to complete the migration
Once you’re read to go live follow the steps to connect your domain to Ecenica
