We’re pleased to let you know we’ve updated Ecenica Free Apps with the very latest WordPress 4.3, nicknamed “Billie” after the jazz singer Billie Holiday.
What’s new in WordPress 4.3?
The new WordPress 4.3 release introduces a number of new features to help make customising your WordPress site and writing content even easier than before.
Headline features introduced in 4.3 include;
- Menus in customizer
- Formatting shortcuts
- Site Icons
- Better Passwords
There’s also a few smaller tweaks to make admin area work more smoothly, comments are now turned off on pages by default and the customize link is now always in the toolbar on the front-end so you can make changes quicker than before.
A feature we like is the new Site Icons.
This new feature allows you to quickly add your own custom icon which will show in web browser tabs, bookmark menus and on the home screen of mobiles. A nice extra way for you to show off your brand.
A new, more secure way of resetting your WordPress user passwords is also introduced in version 4.3. You’ll now get a password reset link instead of the password being sent to you in plain text and WordPress will now automatically create strong passwords for your new users.
In our own tests we found these features definitely helped boost your WordPress security.

Should I update?
If you’re still rocking an older install of WordPress and have waited to update to the latest version once all the bugs have been squashed then our, and WordPress’ recommendation would be to upgrade as soon as possible. Not only will you get some new features you’ll also benefit from a range of security fixes which will keep your website safe and online.
As ever, updating WordPress is simply a case of logging in to your WordPress Dashboard, clicking Updates > Update Now. Just remember to take a minute to make a quick backup just in case.
