Troubleshooting

Fix the “SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP” Error

If you’re seeing the SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP error in Firefox when trying to access Ecenica webmail or a secure website, it means that your Firefox was unable to establish a secure connection due to incompatible encryption settings.

This issue is usually caused by one of the following:

  • You’re using an outdated version of Firefox that no longer supports newer, more secure connection protocols.
  • Your device or browser does not support the encryption (SSL/TLS) methods used by the server.

How to Fix the SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP Error

1. Update Firefox

Ensure you’re using the latest version of Firefox. Older versions may not support modern encryption protocols required to access secure sites like Ecenica Webmail.

macOS

  • Open Firefox.
  • Click Firefox in the top menu bar.
  • Select About Firefox.
  • Firefox will automatically check for updates and download them.
  • Click Restart to Update Firefox if prompted.

Windows

  • Open Firefox.
  • Click the Menu button (☰) in the upper-right corner.
  • Go to Help > About Firefox.
  • Firefox will check for updates and install them automatically.
  • Click Restart to Update Firefox if prompted.

Keeping Firefox up to date resolves the vast majority of SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP errors.

2. Try a Different Browser

If updating Firefox doesn’t fix the issue, try opening the same link in a different browser such as:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Safari (on Mac/iPhone)

3. Try a Direct Webmail Link

Sometimes the issue is specific to a subdomain. Try accessing Ecenica Webmail using one of these alternate URLs:

4. Try a Different Device

If you’re still seeing the error, test the same link on another device—for example, your mobile phone, tablet, or another computer. This can help isolate whether the issue is device-specific.

Still Having Trouble?

You can still access your email using a mail app like Apple Mail, Outlook, or Thunderbird by connecting via secure IMAP and SMTP. These allow encrypted email access without relying on a browser.
