Unable to update WordPress

If you see the following message at the top of your WordPress Dashboard, it means you can’t upgrade WordPress to the latest update.

WordPress x.0 is available! Please notify the site administrator.

The fix is to open your wp-config.php and look for the following optional lines:

define('DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', true);
define('DISALLOW_FILE_MODS', true);

If you see these lines, change them to false

define('DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', false);
define('DISALLOW_FILE_MODS', false);

Or comment them out:

define('DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', false);
define('DISALLOW_FILE_MODS', false);

Save your wp-config.php and reload your WordPress Dashboard.

You should now see a message simlar ot the below

WordPress x.0 is available! Please update now.

You can now update your WordPress version. Remember to reset your wp-config.php after updating.
