What is Plus Addressing?
Plus addressing, also known as subaddressing or tagged addressing, is a powerful feature that allows you to create custom email addresses on the fly without setting up additional mailboxes or aliases. It helps with email management, filtering, and spam management.
For example, if your email address is user@example.com, you can use user+shopping@example.com when signing up for online stores. Emails sent to user+shopping@example.com will still be delivered to user@example.com.
How Plus Addressing Works
- Any email sent to
yourname+anything@example.comis automatically delivered toyourname@example.com. - You don’t need to create separate email accounts or aliases.
- You can use different
+anythingaddresses to track where emails are coming from. - Set up filters in your email client or Ecenica Email Filtering to automatically sort messages based on the
+anythingtag.
How to Use Plus Addressing
- Use plus addressing when signing up for services, e.g.,
user+newsletter@example.com. - In Ecenica Webmail, Gmail, Outlook, or any other email client, set up rules to filter emails based on the
+address. - In Ecenica Email Filtering, navigate to Email Filters to create rules that move messages to specific folders based on the recipient address.
Benefits of Plus Addressing
- Better Email Organization – Easily filter and sort emails.
- Spam Tracking – Identify who is sharing your email address.
- No Additional Setup Required – Works automatically with Ecenica Email.
Important Notes
- Some websites may not accept email addresses containing
+. - Plus addressing works with all Ecenica email accounts by default.
