⚠️ Security Notice
We strongly recommend accessing phpMyAdmin via cPanel instead of installing it separately. The cPanel version includes extra protections such as Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), automatic session handling, and automatically managed updates. Only install phpMyAdmin manually if you have a specific requirement.
Step 1: Create a Subdomain
- Log in to Ecenica Dashboard.
- Click Services > My Services and then click Manage next to your Ecenica hosting service.
- Under shortcuts click Domains.
- Click Create A New Domain.
- Enter a subdomain e.g., phpmyadmin.example.com
- Click Submit.
Step 2: Install phpMyAdmin with Softaculous
- In cPanel, open Softaculous App Installer.
- Search for phpMyAdmin.
- Click Install Now.
- Under Choose Installation URL, select the subdomain you
created in step 1. - Leave the In Directory field empty (so it installs directly on
the subdomain). - Click Install.
Step 3: Password Protect the phpMyAdmin Directory
To add an extra security layer, use cPanel’s Directory Privacy feature:
Steps to Password Protect a Website
- In cPanel, click Directory Privacy.
- Find the folder where phpMyAdmin was installed (e.g., phpmyadmin.example.com) and click Edit/.
- Check Password protect this directory.
- Give it a name (e.g., “Protected Access”) and click Save
- Create a username and password.
Now, anyone visiting your phpMyAdmin installation will be see a login screen and need to enter the username and password you’ve added via directory privacy before logging in to phpMyAdmin.
Step 4: Access phpMyAdmin
- Open your browser and visit the subdomain you created in step 1. E.g. https://phpmyadmin.example.com
- Log in first with your Directory Privacy credentials from step 3.
- Then log in to phpMyAdmin using either:
- Your cPanel username and password
- Your mysql database user and database password
