Use the steps below to completely disable comments on your WordPress site in just a few clicks.
How-to disable comments in WordPress Dashboard
- Log in to your WordPress Dashboard
- Click Settings > Discussion
- Uncheck Allow people to post comments on new articles and Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks) on new articles
- Click Save Changes
Comments and pingbacks will now be disabled for all future posts you make.
How-to disable comments for existing posts
- Click Posts > All Posts
- Select all posts, click the Bulk Actions drop-down list, select Edit and click Apply
- Click the Comments drop-down list, select Do not allow and click Update
How-to disable comments for existing pages
- Click Pages > All Pages
- Select all pages, click the Bulk Actions drop-down list, select Edit and click Apply
- Click the Comments drop-down list, select Do not allow and click Update
Disable WordPress comments with a plugin
Another method to disable comments in WordPress is by installing the Disable Comments plugin on your WordPress site.
- Click Plugins > Add New
- Search for Disable Comments by Samir Shah
- Click Install Now on the plugin and Activate
- Click Settings > Disable Comments
- Select Everywhere or On certain post types options depending on if you wish to disable comments entirely or on just posts and pages.
- Click Save Changes
Note, you if you are running a caching plugin such as WP Super Cache or W3 Total Cache you will need to clear your website cache after disabling comments.
As with all plugins, Disable Comments may be incompatible with your WordPress theme, other plugins you are running on your site or future WordPress updates.
