Fixing Email Blocks Caused by Old Passwords on iPhones and iPads

If your broadband connection is being blocked when checking email, the cause is often an iPhone or iPad still trying to use an old password.

When you change your Ecenica mailbox password, your Apple device may keep trying the old one in the background. After several failed attempts in a short time, the Ecenica Firewall and Intrusion Detection system protecting your service sees this as a possible attack and temporarily blocks your IP address, affecting all devices on your network.

The good news is this can be fixed quickly by updating or removing the outdated login details.

Why This Happens

  • Saved Passwords – iOS Mail and other apps often store old credentials.
  • Background Activity – Even if you don’t open Mail, your device may keep trying to log in.
  • Duplicates – The same mailbox can sometimes be added more than once.
  • Old Profiles – Previous device or email configurations may still hold incorrect details.

How to Fix It

Follow these steps on your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Update or Remove Accounts
    • Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
    • Tap your Ecenica email account. Update the password, or delete the account if you no longer require access from this device.
  2. Check for Duplicates
    • Double check your Email Account isn’t added more than once.
    • Remove any duplicate entries.
  3. Review Device Profiles
    • Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.
    • Remove any old email or device profiles that may still contain the wrong password.
  4. Check other email apps
    • If you’ve installed a 3rd-party email app on your iPhone or iPad, check the app settings for your email account and update the password.
