Overview
When running your websites or applications on Ecenica Managed VPS High Availability (HA) Load Balanced Hosting, your databases are replicated across multiple Ecenica servers. This setup provides resilience, failover protection, and improved performance.
A common question is:
“If I need to add a new table, do I have to create it on every database server?”
The short answer is no, you only need to create your new table in the primary database.
How Replication Works
- In Ecenica HA systems, your primary database accepts all write operations (such as creating a new table, updating schema, inserting records, etc.).
- The replication system then automatically copies these changes to your secondary databases in near real-time.
This ensures that all your databases remain in sync without requiring you to duplicate your changes manually.
What You Need to Do
When creating a new table:
- Connect to your primary database (the database you normally use for writes).
- Run your
CREATE TABLEstatement or use your preferred database management tool (such as phpMyAdmin, MySQL Workbench, or command-line SQL). - That’s it — our replication system will handle syncing the new table across your HA setup.
Important Notes
- Do not attempt to manually create the table on secondary servers. Doing so may cause conflicts or replication errors.
- Depending on replication load, changes may take a few moments to fully propagate.
- Schema changes (like adding or dropping tables, altering columns, etc.) are supported by our replication system.
- For large structural changes, we recommend scheduling them during off-peak hours to minimize potential replication lag.
