Installing phpMyAdmin via Softaculous on a Subdomain

Step 1: Create a Subdomain

  1. Log in to Ecenica Dashboard.
  2. Click Services > My Services and then click Manage next to your Ecenica hosting service.
  3. Under shortcuts click Domains.
  4. Click Create A New Domain.
  5. Enter a subdomain e.g., phpmyadmin.example.com
  6. Click Submit.

Step 2: Install phpMyAdmin with Softaculous

  1. In cPanel, open Softaculous App Installer.
  2. Search for phpMyAdmin.
  3. Click Install Now.
  4. Under Choose Installation URL, select the subdomain you
    created in step 1.
  5. Leave the In Directory field empty (so it installs directly on
    the subdomain).
  6. Click Install.

Step 3: Password Protect the phpMyAdmin Directory

To add an extra security layer, use cPanel’s Directory Privacy feature:

  1. In cPanel, click Directory Privacy.
  2. Find the folder where phpMyAdmin was installed (e.g., phpmyadmin.example.com) and click Edit/.
  3. Check Password protect this directory.
  4. Give it a name (e.g., “Protected Access”) and click Save
  5. Create a username and password.

Now, anyone visiting your phpMyAdmin installation will be see a login screen and need to enter the username and password you’ve added via directory privacy before logging in to phpMyAdmin.

Step 4: Access phpMyAdmin

  1. Open your browser and visit the subdomain you created in step 1. E.g. https://phpmyadmin.example.com
  2. Log in first with your Directory Privacy credentials from step 3.
  3. Then log in to phpMyAdmin using either:
    • Your cPanel username and password
    • Your mysql database user and database password
