If your WordPress site is stuck in maintenance mode, it typically happens after an update or plugin installation. The “maintenance mode” page is usually displayed to visitors until the process is complete, but sometimes it gets stuck. Here’s how to resolve it:
The most common reason for being stuck in maintenance mode is the .maintenance file created during updates. This file is meant to be deleted automatically once the update is complete, but it can occasionally remain in place.
How to Delete the .maintenance File
Follow these steps to delete a file using cPanel File Manager through your Ecenica Dashboard:
1. Log in to the Ecenica Dashboard
- Open your browser and go to the Ecenica Dashboard login page.
- Enter your login credentials to access the dashboard.
2. Navigate to the File Manager
- From the Ecenica Dashboard, go to Services.
- Select the Plan that corresponds to the website you’re working on.
- Click on Website to access website management options.
- Under the Website section, click on File Manager.
3. Access the File Manager
- The cPanel File Manager will open in a new window or tab.
- Navigate to the root directory of your WordPress installation (the directory containing
wp-content,wp-includes, andwp-admin).
4. Locate the File to Delete
- Look for the file you want to delete (e.g.,
.maintenancefile). - You can use the search bar to quickly locate the file.
5. Delete the File
- Once the file is located, right-click on it.
- Select Delete from the context menu.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
6. Empty the Trash (Optional)
- After deleting the file, you can empty the trash to permanently remove it from the server.
- Navigate to the trash icon on the left sidebar and click Empty Trash.
7. Verify the Fix
- After deleting the file, refresh your website in the browser to check if the “stuck in maintenance mode” issue is resolved.
