In this article we’ll explain how you can setup your domain in your cPanel account to route email to an external mail server instead of locally.
When an email is sent, servers will always check if the domain your email has been sent to is on the same server. If the domain exists on the server, it will attempt to deliver it to the local mailboxes.
If the domain’s email is hosted externally, you’ll experience delivery failures when you try to send and receive email. To resolve these issues, please set your domain to route email to remote servers instead of locally using the steps below.
How to set a domain to route email externally in cPanel
- Log in to cPanel.
- For help accessing your cPanel see Where do I log in to my hosting control panel.
- Click Email Routing
- Select your domain (If you have more than one)
- Select Remote Mail Exchanger under Configure Email Routing
- Click Change
