If your card has expired but your payment still went through, it’s usually because of how our payment processor, Stripe, works with your bank to avoid service disruptions.
How It Works
When you save a card to your Ecenica account, Stripe creates a secure token linked to your bank account, not just the card number or expiry date. If the card was saved before it expired, this token can still be used for future payments.
At renewal, Stripe sends the payment request using the token. Your issuing bank decides whether to approve the charge. Many banks allow it to go through if the card has simply been replaced or updated, helping to prevent interruptions to subscriptions or services.
Why This Happens
- Bank policy: The decision is entirely up to your bank.
- Avoiding disruption: Banks often approve these charges so customers don’t lose access to ongoing services before they’ve had a chance to update details.
- Same bank replacement: If your new card is from the same bank, payments are more likely to be approved.
Things to Keep in Mind
- Not all banks support this feature.
- If you’ve cancelled your card, changed banks, or updated your billing address, you’ll need to update your payment method in your Ecenica account.
- Check your saved card details and ensure there are enough funds available for upcoming renewals to avoid service interruptions.
Our secure payment process ensures your services remain online while maintaining high levels of security, even if your card expiry date has passed.
