Learn how to enable to enable SMTP authentication in Apple Mail, Apple iPhone, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express and Microsoft Windows Mail.

Apple Mail

Enable SMTP authentication in Apple Mail App.

  1. Open Mail.
  2. Choose Preferences from the Mail menu.
  3. Click the Accounts tab (shown as a blue ‘@’ icon)
  4. Choose your Ecenica Hosting email account from the left-side panel.
  5. Make sure you’re viewing the ‘Account Information’ tab. (this is the default tab).
  6. Under Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) click the drop-down menu and select Edit SMTP Server List….
  7. If you have more than one SMTP server listed, select your Ecenica Hosting SMTP server. Otherwise you’ll see Mail has preselected your server.
  8. Check Server Name is set to servername.ecenica.com (replace with your package’s server name)
  9. Click the Advanced tab.
  10. Untick Automatically detect and maintain account settings
  11. Enter 587 for port
  12. Tick Use SSL
  13. Under Authentication, select Password.
  14. Enter your full email address as the User Name.
  15. Enter your email account password in the password field..
  16. Click OK.
  17. Close the Accounts window.
  18. Quit and re-open Apple Mail.

Apple iPhone

Enable SMTP authentication on Apple iPhone

  1. Tap Settings
  2. Tap Mail, Accounts, Calendars.
  3. Tap your Ecenica email account.
  4. Tap Account.
  5. Tap SMTP.
  6. Tap Primary Server.
  7. Enter the following:
    Host Name: mail.yourdomainname.com (replace yourdomainname.com with your domain)
    Username: Your email address e.g. info@example.com
    Password: Your email password.
  8. Tap Authentication > Tap Password.
  9. Tap Server Port, enter 587.
  10. Tap Done.

Outlook 2010, 2007 and 2003

Enable SMTP authentication in Microsoft Outlook.

  1. Open Microsoft Office Outlook.
  2. Click on the Tools menu, click email Accounts.
  3. Select View or change existing email accounts , and then click Next.
  4. Click the email account you want, and then click Change.
  5. Click More Settings… to show the Internet emails Setting pop-up.
  6. Click the Outgoing Server tab and click the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox.
  7. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.
  8. Click OK and then exit by clicking Next and Finish.

Outlook Express

Enable SMTP authentication in Microsoft Outlook Express.

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook Express.
  2. Click on the Tools menu, click Accounts.
  3. Click the Mail tab, click the email account you want and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Servers tab and under Outgoing Mail Server click the My server requires authentication checkbox.
  5. Click OK and then exit by clicking Close.

Windows Mail

Enable SMTP authentication in Microsoft Windows Mail.

  1. Open Microsoft Windows Mail.
  2. Click on the Tools menu, click Accounts.
  3. Click the Mail tab, click the email account you want and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Servers tab and under Outgoing Mail Server click the My server requires authentication checkbox.
  5. Click OK and then exit by clicking Close.
