Summary

In this article we explain how to configure the spam filter settings (powered by Apache SpamAssassin™) for your account. Spam filters identify and sort or delete unsolicited email, commonly known as spam.

We have configured Ecenica hosting servers with additional SpamAssassin rulesets, which are updated daily to help target and prevent the latest SPAM techniques. With Spam Filter enabled it’s possible to eliminate more than 98% of spam emails.

All Ecenica hosting services come with Spam Filters enabled and pre-configured for you to save you time. However we know some users may wish to customize their spam settings.

How-to enable SpamAssassin

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Click Spam Filters in the Email section.
    Spam Filters button in cPanel
  3. Click the toggle to enable Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam
    Enable Spam Filter in cPanel

  2. Click Spam Filters
  3. Click Move New Spam to a Separate Folder (Spam Box):

To stop moving emails marked as spam to the spam folder click Disable Spam Box.

How-to disable SpamAssassin

To disable all junk email filtering on your account:

  1. Log in to cPanel. See Where do I login to my hosting control panel
  2. Click Spam Filters
  3. Disable Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam

Tuning settings to improve spam detection

The default rules we apply to all Ecenica accounts will catch the vast majority of spam email. Whilst we have advanced spam technology which blocks a very high percentage of spam. However spammers are constantly changing their techniques to get around spam filters meaning it’s impossible for any spam system to stop 100%. However if you are receiving a noticeable amount of spam then we recommend changing the following settings:

  1. Set the Spam Threshold Score to 4.
  2. Click Additional Configurations (For Advanced Users) > Calculated Spam Score Settings
  3. Click Add A New “scores” item and add the following, one by one:
    score URIBL_DBL_SPAM 4.7
    score URIBL_DBL_ABUSE_SPAM 4
    score URIBL_DBL_ABUSE_MALW 4
    score URI_WP_HACKED 2
    score URIBL_ABUSE_SURBL 4
    score URIBL_WS_SURBL 5.7
    score URIBL_BLACK 5.7
    score DCC_CHECK 5
    score RDNS_NONE 2
  4. Click Update Scoring Options
