Problem
WordPress Site Health shows the recommended improvement ‘The optional module, imagick, is not installed, or has been disabled’. Imagick is a PHP extension which provides better image quality for media uploads, smarter image resizing (for smaller images) and PDF thumbnail support, when Ghost Script is also available.
Cause
The ‘The optional module, imagick, is not installed, or has been disabled’ warning is shown when your hosting environment does not have the Imagick PHP module loaded.
Resolution
To fix enable imagick. Ecenica hosting plans have imagick enabled by default. We also provide WordPress Hosting which lets you choose the PHP modules you want to run.
Steps to fix WordPress ‘The optional module, imagick, is not installed, or has been disabled’ warning
- Log in to cPanel.
- For help accessing your cPanel see Where do I log in to my hosting control panel.
- Click Select PHP Version.
- Enable imagick
After enabling imagick Site Health will clear the ‘Have a default theme available’ warning.
