How to fix strange characters on web page

Web pages can show characters instead of punctuation marks when your web pages are encoded using a charset other than the default UTF-8.

To resolve this you can change the default charset PHP uses.

Fix charset using .htaccess

  1. Open your .htaccess file
  2. Add the following lines
php_value default_charset None
AddDefaultCharset ISO-8859-1
  1. Save and close
  2. Open your website
