On 16 May 2017 WordPress announced the release of WordPress 4.7.5, a new security update for the popular blogging and CMS platform you can use to create a website, blog or app.
We, and WordPress strongly recommend you update your WordPress websites as this release has important security fixes which help keep your website safe and secure.
How do I update?
If you have automatic updates enabled then the good news is your websites will be updated for you without you needing to lift a finger.
Manually updating WordPress is simply a case of logging in to your WordPress Dashboard, clicking Updates > Update Now. Just remember to take a quick backup just in case.

What’s new in WordPress 4.7.5?
Six security updates and three minor bug fixes are found in WordPress 4.7.5. According to WordPress’ release notes the release fixes the following:
- Insufficient redirect validation in the HTTP class.
- Improper handling of post meta data values in the XML-RPC API.
- Lack of capability checks for post meta data in the XML-RPC API.
- A Cross Site Request Forgery (CRSF) vulnerability was discovered in the filesystem credentials dialog.
- A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered when attempting to upload very large files.
- A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability was discovered related to the Customizer.

What’s coming soon from WordPress?
WordPress 4.7.5 will soon be followed by WordPress 4.8. The first public beta was released on 13th May 2017.
